Using over-the-counter acne treatments containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid can get rid of acne, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Washing the face twice daily, avoiding sunlight and using the fingertips to apply cleansers also reduce acne.
Adult sufferers should fight acne as soon as it appears, recommends Women's Health. An acne lotion after an acne wash reduces the dryness to which adult skin is prone. An anti-aging cream completes this regimen.
Willowbark extract, which is derived from salicylic acid, can also help, notes Women’s Health. Products containing vitamin C or other antioxidants can cause scars to fade once the acne is gone.
