After washing and completely drying the hair, divide it into sections using rubber bands. Each section should form a 1-inch by 1-inch square on the scalp. Secure each section with a small rubber band.
Use a fine-toothed comb to backcomb each section of hair towards the scalp. This packs the hair together and begins forming the dreadlocks. Secure both ends of the dreadlocks with rubber bands and wax them lightly to help them set.
