To help prevent wrinkles, a person should use sunscreen on a daily basis, get enough sleep, eat a healthy diet, stay hydrated and use moisturizer. Some people are more genetically inclined to get wrinkles than others. Taking a look at one's family tree gives him or her an idea of how light or deep the wrinkles may be.
Wrinkles are a natural result of the aging effect on skin. While wrinkles cannot be completely erased, there are some steps a person can take to reduce their appearance.
Step 1: Use a daily sunscreen
Applying sunscreen every day helps to protect the skin from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. Many skin moisturizers and makeup have sunscreen blended in.
Step 2: Get plenty of sleep
According to Nicholas Perricone, MD, if a person doesn't get enough sleep the body produces an excess of cortisol, which breaks down skin cells. The Human Growth Hormone, HCG, is produced when a person gets plenty of sleep. HCG keeps skin healthy.
Step 3: Eat healthy foods and stay hydrated
A healthy diet encourages healthy skin growth. Drinking plenty of water keeps the skin hydrated and plump, discouraging wrinkles.
Step 4: Use moisturizer
Using a moisturizer especially formulated for hydrating the skin and producing collagen helps deter wrinkles. It is best to apply the moisturizer at night, just before bed.
