The following shows two types of eyeglass cleaning solutions made with common household items.
- Soap and water mixture - To make this cleaning solution, fill a medium-sized bowl with warm water. Add a few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent, and then slowly combine the mixture by swirling it with a spoon. Once the mixture has combined thoroughly, hold the eyeglasses by the arms and dip the lenses into the mixture. Stir the mixture with the lenses slowly. After the lenses have been sufficiently washed, use a 100 percent cotton cloth to dry the eyeglasses.
- Alcohol, water and soap mixture - Fill a spray bottle 3/4 of the way with rubbing alcohol. Add a few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent and fill the rest of the bottle with water. Shake the bottle gently, just enough for the mixture to combine, but not create any suds. To use it to clean eyeglasses, spray directly on the lenses and wipe thoroughly with a 100 percent cotton cloth until dry.
When cleaning the lenses, it is a good idea not to use too much pressure when wiping. Do not use any material that can cause abrasions on the lenses, such as newsprint, paper towels or toilet paper.
