To wash a wig, comb the wig, and use shampoo and conditioner specially made for wigs. Wash the wig with cold water, and gently towel the hair dry. Make sure to let the wig continue to air dry on a stand.
- Comb the wig
Gently detangle the wig using a wig brush or a wide-toothed comb. Hold the roots of the hair with one hand, and comb small sections one at a time.
- Use wig shampoo
Wet the hair using cold water. Apply a small amount of wig shampoo to the tips of the hair. Gently massage the shampoo into the hair, working your way from bottom to top. Comb through the hair using your fingers, but avoid pulling. Rinse the wig with cold water.
- Use wig conditioner
Apply a small amount of wig conditioner to the tips of the hair. Use the wide-toothed comb to make sure that the conditioner is evenly distributed throughout the wig. Wash the wig with cold water. If you use a leave-in wig conditioner, you do not need to wash the wig.
- Dry the wig
Use a towel to dry the wig. Gently pat the hair dry, and avoid twisting or squeezing the hair. Place the wig on a stand to let it air dry. Do not let the wig dry on a mannequin head.
