To use shaving soap, wet a shaving brush with hot water, and rub the brush in a circular motion on the soap to make lather. Apply the lather to your face in circular motions with the brush. Add more hot water to the brush as needed to re-lather.
- Soak the shaving brush
Use a badger hair shaving brush, as badger hair is highly absorbent. Run the brush under hot water until it is thoroughly soaked. Alternatively, fill the sink with hot water, and let the brush soak in the water for a few minutes.
- Make a rich lather
Place the shaving soap in a mug, jar or deep dish, and swirl the wet shaving brush in a circular motion on the soap for at least 25 seconds. The longer you do this, the thicker the lather becomes. Wet the brush with more hot water as needed to create more lather.
- Apply the lather to your face
Use the wet shaving brush to scoop up the shaving soap lather. Gently apply the soap to your face using circular motions. The hot water and lather cause the facial hairs to soften, making them easier to remove when shaving. When you are done shaving, remove the water and lather from the shaving soap and dish, and let it air dry.
