To shave with a safety razor, wash your face with warm clean water, then lather your beard with shaving cream. Glide the safety razor along your beard in the direction that the hair is growing without applying pressure against the razor. Rinse your face, then moisturize.
To further prepare your skin for the shave, exfoliate your face with a skin scrub, then place a warm, damp towel over your beard for several minutes to soften the hair. While shaving, hold the safety razor at a 30-degree angle. Rinse the soap and hair particles off of the safety razor with clean water after each swipe. When you have finished shaving, splash your face with cold water to remove all excess soap and hair. Use a mirror to check for any spots you may have missed while shaving. Pat your face dry with a clean towel, then apply any additional aftershave products you desire, such as a shave tonic to close your pores, an antibacterial shaving balm to reduce red bumps or an unscented moisturizer to keep skin soft.
