To use a curling iron properly, select the right heat setting, hold the curling iron with the barrel up, and clamp it to a 1-inch section of hair. Rotate the barrel outward, and hold for five seconds. Pin the curl to your scalp with a bobby pin, and repeat the process with the remaining sections of hair.
- Set the heat, and divide your hair into 1-inch sections
Set the curling iron on a low-heat setting for fine hair, or a medium-high setting for thicker hair. Separate your hair into 1-inch sections.
- Hold the curling iron vertically, and curl the first section of hair
Hold the curling iron vertically, and clamp the curling iron onto the 1-inch section of hair closest to your face. Rotate the barrel away from your face, hold the barrel on the hair for five seconds, then release.
- Pin the curl to your scalp, and curl the rest of your hair
Wrap the curled section of hair around your finger, and use a bobby pin to pin it to your scalp. Repeat the same process for the next section of hair, only this time, turn the barrel toward your face. Continue alternating the direction of the curls for the remaining sections of your hair. Apply a finishing spray to the pinned-up curls. Let the curls sit for five minutes, then take them down and gently rake your fingers through the curls.
