Untangling matted hair requires patience, several combs of varying tooth widths, conditioner, detangler and an anti-frizz serum. A small pair of scissors also helps to cut out the most matted areas.
Spray and pat the conditioner or detangler into a small section of the hair. It is important not to rub the hair as that increases the chance of further matting.
Apply the serum to the problem hair is the next, and follow with a gentle combing. Start with the widest toothed comb and slowly work from the ends to scalp in sections less than 1 inch. Continue this process, gradually switching from the wide-tooth comb to medium width and, finally, a two-ended styling comb. A vertical snip helps release problem knots.
