Some home remedies include applying coconut oil. The saturated oils in it moisturize the weak nails and prevent infections. Apple cider vinegar contains iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium and vitamins that strengthen and moisturize dry, brittle nails. Vitamin E oil also helps in hydrating, moisturizing, nourishing and strengthening nails. Tea tree oil provides an effective treatment for dry, brittle nails caused by fungal infection. Sea salt and horsetail both strengthen the nails.
Short nails have a smaller surface area, which leads to reduced chemical and water absorption. When the nails face constant exposure to moisture, they absorb the water, and then it diffuses back out. The alternation of absorption and dryness of nails causes rapid expansion and contraction, leading to brittle nails. Cutting the nails short prevents the nails from absorbing too much water and drying excessively.
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are avoided as they dry the nails. Avoiding nail polish is essential in giving the nails time to get back into shape. Cuticle oils or creams moisturize the nails and prevent them from chipping and cracking.Learn more about Nail Care
