To tie Sperry Topsiders, take each end of the shoe lace and create a loop around itself. Continue to wind the lace around the loop away from the shoe up until it reaches the end and then stick the remaining lace through the top of the loop to secure the knot in place. The Sperry website suggests tying the shoes using either the barrel, tassel, chain or fishtail knot, and it offers instructional videos that show how to tie the knots.
Use the following steps to tie Sperry Topsider shoes using the barrel knot.
- Form a loop using one end of the shoelace
- Wrap the end of the shoelace around the base of the loop
- Wind the lace up the loop and secure
Take one end of the shoelace and double it back on itself to create a loop. The loops should be relatively small, and there should be a lot of extra lace trailing after the loop.
Wrap the trailing end of the shoelace around the base of the loop nearest the shoe.
Continue to wind the trailing end of the lace all the way up the loop, traveling away from the shoe. Once reaching the top of the loop, stick the remaining trail end through the top of the loop and pull tight to secure. Repeat with the other side of the shoelace.
