Getting teal hair requires applying teal-colored hair dye to bleached or naturally blond hair. Dark hair requires pre-lightening for vibrant color. Products available include Manic Panic's Atomic Turquoise or VooDoo Blue.
- Test the dye on a patch of skin
Just behind the ear, wash a small area with soap and water. Dab some dye on the patch and allow to set for 24 hours. If irritation occurs, do not use the product.
- Test a strip of hair
Test a small strand of hair in an area where it can be hidden or cut out without being noticeable. Be aware that bright hair colors are brightest on light blond hair. Wearing gloves, lighten the strip with Manic Panic's Flashlightning Complete Bleach Kit. Time the number of minutes it takes to lighten the strip of hair to at least a level 7 or 8 blond. Thoroughly rinse and wash hair with shampoo. Do not condition and dry. Apply the chosen teal coloring cream to the test strand. Saturate hair with the dye and comb through until frothy. Leave on for at least 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water to check color vibrancy. If the hair is not vibrant enough, repeat dye until desired color is achieved.
- Pre-lighten your hair
Using the same process used on your test strand, pre-lighten the desired areas of your hair. If only dying small highlights, coat other areas of hair with Vaseline. Bleaching results are permanent. Dry your hair.
- Apply the dye
Once again, use petroleum jelly to coat hair and skin that you want protected from dye. Apply the chosen Manic Panic color cream dye to dry hair, using a tint brush to saturate the hair, starting 1/2 inch from the hairline. Comb through the dyed hair until frothy, and leave in for the amount of time indicated in the test kit. Rinse with cool water.
