To get the best results from a tanning bed, remember that moderation is key. Start with shorter sessions in lower-intensity tanning beds. Take caution that skin does not become red, overly dry or itchy between sessions. These are signs of excessive tanning.
Tanning two to three times per week is usually sufficient to maintain a tan. Taking good care of the skin by using indoor tanning lotion before each session and applying an after-tan lotion at least twice a day afterward will ensure that the tan will develop easily and maintain a healthy look. Other skin products, such as deodorant or makeup, should be avoided before tanning, since these can cause reactions or affect tan quality. For protection, eye goggles are recommended as is covering sensitive areas with a towel or bathing suit.
