Taino tribal tattoo designs are petroglyphs and artistic symbols created by the native Taino people of the Caribbean. The Taino people did not have a written alphabet and carved these artful symbols on rocks.
The tattoo designs were used by men for spiritual purposes, while women had piercings. The moon, water and sun were important symbols for the Taino people, the sun being the most popular symbol for a tattoo design. Other tattoo designs popular in the Taino community included animals, such as turtles, frogs and lizards. Taino people had exceptional respect for their gods and believed they ruled both Heaven and Earth. As such, they used tattoo symbols to symbolize these gods.
