There are a variety of ways to style curly hair. Wear your curls au natural, put them in a ponytail, or style them half up and half down. You can also pin your hair to a side or, for an updo, tease your curls and go afro, or straighten your hair.
Curly hair results when the proteins in the hair bend. There are several different textures and types of curls, ranging from loose and wavy to tightly coiled. Maintaining your curls depends on your type of curls.
Wash your curly tresses no more than once or twice a week. When you wash, go shampoo-less, or use a sulfate- and alcohol-free shampoo to avoid stripping your hair of its natural oils and thereby leaving it dry, frizzy and dull. Deep-condition your hair once a week so your curls stay moisturized. Curls tend to be dry, so apply a leave-in conditioner and a frizz serum to your hair. You can also style with mousse, gel or a styling lotion. Air-dry or diffuse your hair with a blow dryer on high heat at medium power. Add oil or serum to keep your hair looking shiny. Keep the ends healthy and full by regularly trimming them.
