To strengthen the hair, use shampoo and conditioner formulated to fortify the hair. Blot hair dry with a microfiber towel, work tangles out in sections, and use a heat protector before styling. Once a week, use a coconut oil treatment in the hair.
- Wash your hair with a restorative shampoo
Select a shampoo that is free of sulfates and formulated to fortify or strengthen the hair. While washing, concentrate on cleansing the roots of the hair, allowing the shampoo to trickle through the ends while rinsing.
- Massage the scalp
Before rinsing the hair, massage the scalp for 2 minutes to promote blood circulation.
- Use deep conditioner
Look for a conditioner formulated for dry or damaged hair. Apply the conditioner from the ends up to the roots, and allow to sit in the hair for at least a minute. Rinse with cool water.
- Towel blot the hair
Use an absorbent microfiber hair towel to blot the excess water from your hair. Never use a regular cloth towel to rub the hair dry, as this creates damage.
- Use a wide-toothed comb
Section hair into two or three sections. Use a wide-toothed comb to work out the tangles. Start from the bottom of the strand, and work your way up to the scalp before moving on to the next section. Never start at the scalp, and comb the tangles out to prevent breakage.
- Apply a heat-protecting spray
If blow drying the hair, spray a heat protector all over the hair.
- Use a weekly hair treatment
Once a week, skip using conditioner in the shower. Instead, coat the hair with coconut oil. Wrap the hair in a shower cap, and allow the coconut oil to sit for 15 minutes. Rinse out the oil, and style as usual.
