To straighten your hair, the fastest method is to apply a straightening balm, blow dry the hair and use a flat iron to complete the process. A straightening balm, a flat paddle brush, a blow dryer and a flat iron are required. This process takes about 15 minutes.
- Apply the straightening balm
Wash and condition the hair either right before styling or before going to bed the previous night. Hair that is straightened should be conditioned often to prevent the heat from damaging the hair. The hair should be dry to start the straightening process, or for hair that is curly, apply a light mist of water to it. The balm should be applied to sections of hair between 1/4 and 1/2 inch in size.
- Blow dry the hair
Use the flat paddle brush to pull the hair downward, followed immediately by heat from the blow dryer. The blow dryer should also point downward the entire time, as blow drying upward causes frizzy hair.
- Use a flat iron
Iron the larger, outermost sections of the hair beginning at the root of the hair. Although more expensive, flat irons with ceramic tourmaline plates straighten hair more quickly, usually in about half the time. These irons are also less likely to damage the hair or cause frizz.
