Acne breakouts can be treated and prevented by using a facial cleanser that contains benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid or lactic acid, reports WebMD. Gently washing the face twice per day is recommended whether or not there is an active acne breakout.
Some facial cleansers dry out the skin, further aggravating the condition, according to WebMD. Using a daily moisturizer that indicates that it is noncomedogenic is suggested, as noncomedogenic products should not aggravate or cause new acne. For oily hair, washing the hair regularly is recommended, especially during an acne breakout. The oil from hair can transfer to the face and clog pores. Keeping the hair pulled back away from the face and avoiding the use of hair products reduces the transfer of oil to the skin.
