Tie a necktie in a half-Windsor knot by arranging the ends of the tie, looping them around each other and pulling the correct end to tighten the knot. The half-Windsor knot is a versatile knot that works with almost every shirt collar and is appropriate for all occasions.
Begin by placing the tie right side up around the neck and under the collar with the wide end on the right side of the body. That end should hang down approximately 12 inches below the narrow end. Wrap the wide end over the narrow end, then continue to wrap it behind the narrow end. When the wide end is next to the narrow end again, pull it up from the front and thread it through the space created by the narrow end and the shirt collar.
Cross the wide end around and behind the narrow end again, stopping behind the tie. Pull the wide end up through the space between the tie and shirt again, then push it through the knot created by the two ends in front. Pull on the wide end to tighten the knot, center the knot in the collar and adjust the ends to the proper length.
