Spanx is a brand of shapewear hosiery and undergarments created by American entrepreneur Sara Blakely. Spanx are known for their firm control properties, contributing to a smooth appearance along the legs and backside when the undergarments are worn under one's clothing.
Spanx began as a hosiery company, offering smoothing, lifting and firming pantyhose that quickly became popular after they were worn on the red carpet by celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba. Since its launch in 2000, Spanx has expanded its product line to include foundation garments, men's shapers (called Manx) and even a line of shaping jeans. As of 2014, founder Sara Blakely is one of Forbes magazine's 100 Most Powerful Women.
