Coconut oil is a gentle skin moisturizer that does not clog pores. It has antibacterial properties that can help fight the bacteria that causes acne and pimples. Use coconut oil as a moisturizer, cuticle softener or lip balm. Its skin-protective benefits also make it well-suited for using in place of shaving cream
Commercial moisturizers contain significant amount of water, which eventually evaporates and leaves skin feeling dry again. Coconut oil infuses skin with deep moisture that doesn't evaporate. It is also reputed to strengthen the tissues beneath the surface while helping to exfoliate dead skin cells on the skin's surface. Rub a small amount of coconut oil over flyaway hairs, or use it to smooth frizz. Use coconut oil as a deep conditioner for hair by rubbing a small amount of coconut oil into the scalp and combing it through the hair. Leave it in overnight and shampoo as usual. Use a small dab of coconut oil on top of makeup to add natural highlighting to cheeks or brow bones.
Choose extra-virgin coconut oil, which isn't refined, deodorized or hydrogenated. When stored below 76 degrees Fahrenheit, coconut oil remains in a solid state. It does not need to be refrigerated.
