An article from The Richest listed the top 10 expensive perfumes for women and listed a few repeating scents. Flowers such as roses, jasmine and tuberose are common scents, and musky scents such as sandalwood and vanilla are also popular. Whole Living explains that particular scents arouse particular feelings and emotions, which explains why some scents are popular in perfumes.
According to The Richest, floral notes occur the most in the top perfumes. Scents such as roses, jasmine, tuberose and ylang ylang extract are listed. Whole Living says that scents such as jasmine are known to calm feelings of anxiety, and spicy florals worn by women have been known to make men think they weigh less. Musky scents such as sandalwood and vanilla are popular in top perfumes. Bergamot, spicy pepper and frankincense are also listed as musky notes in perfume.
Whole Living says vanilla has calming properties, and sandalwood calms women who are too flighty. Bergamot is described as a natural Prozac by perfumer Jane Hendler. Finally, citrus notes including lemon, lemongrass, orange, grapefruit and even freshly cut grass are listed as refreshing scents in perfumes. Whole Living reports that a foundation study discovered that women wearing a pink grapefruit scent appeared six years younger to men.
