A variety of options exist for the removal or improvement of stretch marks, ranging from homeopathic methods to surgical procedures. The fastest and most effective method for fully getting rid of stretch marks is surgical removal, commonly known as the "tummy tuck," according to DocShop from Einstein Medical.
The surgical removal of stretch marks through the "tummy tuck" procedure is the only method for completely eliminating stretch marks, notes DocShop. However, as the name suggests, this method of stretch mark removal, which includes actually cutting away and discarding the excess skin below the naval, can only be used on the stomach.
A less invasive but still effective procedure, laser therapy can significantly improve the appearance of stretch marks. Requiring a series of treatments, laser therapy includes shining an ultraviolet laser light on the affected area, making skin sore and raw. When the affected skin heals, new, healthy skin grows in place of the former stretch marks. While the marks may not be invisible, DocShop states they usually fade significantly. Other methods of stretch mark removal include creams, lotions, light therapies and improvements in diet and exercise. However, these natural cures, while significantly less expensive, do not typically offer dramatic improvements, especially on well-established marks.
