To reduce the appearance of swelling around the eyes, apply an ice pack or cold water to the affected area, and place green tea bags on the eyes for several minutes. Using over-the-counter products that reduce swelling or sleeping with the head in an elevated position may also reduce the appearance of puffiness. Most treatments can be completed in under 30 minutes.
- Apply an ice pack or cold water
Wash your face with cold water, and apply an ice pack to the eyes for 15 minutes. If an ice pack is not available, wrap a bag of frozen peas in a towel, and place the wrapped peas on the eyes for the same amount of time. To reduce swelling quickly, splash your face with cold water, or dab a small amount of cold water around your eyes with your fingers until the swelling subsides.
- Apply green tea bags
After using an ice pack to reduce the swelling, place steeped and cooled green tea bags on top of your closed eyes for 10 minutes. If necessary, follow this treatment with an over-the-counter beauty product that is specifically designed to reduce the appearance of puffy eyes.
- Sleep on an elevated surface
If puffiness persists, sleep with your head in an elevated position, as this may prevent further swelling of the areas around the eyes.
