To relieve an itchy scalp, create a hydrating and calming solution out of coconut oil and tea tree oil. Once thoroughly mixed, dip your fingers into the solution and gently massage it into the scalp before bed. Visit your physician if the itching becomes worse or is accompanied by bleeding.
- Create the solution
Mix 1 tablespoon of virgin coconut oil with 10 drops of tea tree oil into a small bowl. Stir the ingredients with a wooden spoon until the coconut oil turns into a liquid. Coconut oil features moisturizing and antiseptic properties while tea tree oil helps to reduce inflammation and fight off fungal infections.
- Clean your hair
Thoroughly clean your hair with clean water to remove hair care product residue. Do not wash with a shampoo or conditioner.
- Dry your hair
With a clean towel, fully dry your hair. Do not use a hair dryer, as its heat may irritate your scalp.
- Apply the solution
Before going to bed, dip your fingers into the liquid solution and massage direct into your scalp. Repeat until the entire scalp is covered. Allow the solution to soak overnight.
- Protect your pillow
To prevent staining pillow covers, place a clean towel where your head rests.
- Rinse in the morning
In the morning, rinse and wash your hair as normal.
- Repeat each night
To maintain control over an itchy scalp, apply this solution each night before going to bed. Discontinue once the itching is under control.
