To get rid of dandruff permanently, change your hair care regimen. Brush the hair before showering, massage your scalp with coconut oil, shampoo it out, and rinse with Indian lilac water. Follow this process two to three times a week.
- Make Indian lilac water
Add a large handful of Indian lilac, or neem, into a pot with 4 cups of water. Boil the leaves for a few minutes. Strain the leaves out, and set the solution near the shower to use as a final rinse.
- Brush the hair
Use a natural bristle brush to brush the hair from root to ends. Run the bristles over the scalp slightly to dislodge the flakes, and brush as many away as possible.
- Apply coconut oil to the scalp
Warm the coconut oil slightly to liquefy it. Use your fingertips to apply a small amount directly to the scalp. Try to apply it all over the scalp for best results.
- Massage the scalp
Once the coconut oil is applied, use the pads of your fingers to massage it into your scalp for a couple of minutes. Let the coconut oil sit for 20 minutes. The antifungal properties of coconut oil help eliminate dandruff.
- Wash out the coconut oil
After 20 minutes, shampoo and condition your hair as usual. It may be necessary to shampoo twice to completely remove the coconut oil.
- Use the lilac water rinse
After rinsing out the conditioner, towel dry the hair. While still standing in the shower, pour the lilac water over your head, making sure it rinses the scalp. The antiseptic properties help keep dandruff away.
