To get rid of acne marks, apply hydrocortisone cream and a fading lotion, cover the skin with sunscreen, and then apply concealer. Repeat this 10-minute process daily. You need hydrocortisone cream, fading lotion, broad-spectrum sunscreen, concealer and a sun hat.
- Apply hydrocortisone cream
Gently dab an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream over the acne.
- Lighten the dark spots
Apply fading lotion to scars and dark spots. Choose a product that contains arbutin, kojic acid or vitamin C. If you have sensitive skin, avoid fading lotions that include the bleaching agent hydroquinone.
- Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen
Apply sunscreen lotion with an SPF of 30 or higher. Choose a product that blocks long-wave and short-wave ultraviolet rays. Put on the sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside.
- Conceal the marks
Once your skin absorbs the sunscreen, cover the acne marks with concealer. To hide bright red marks, use a thin brush to paint green concealer over the redness, and cover the green paint with a concealer that matches your skin tone. Lighter marks do not require green concealer.
- Put on a sun hat
Wear a sun hat outdoors, especially during the early afternoon. A sun hat helps prevent the darkening of acne marks due to sun exposure.
