How Do You Remove Dandruff?

How Do You Remove Dandruff?

To remove dandruff, exfoliate your scalp, then apply a hot coconut oil mask to remove the top layer of dead skin. For ongoing treatment, shampoo and condition your hair daily using specialty dandruff products that contain zinc and sulfur.

  1. Exfoliate your scalp

Use an exfoliating scalp mask that contains salicylic acid once a week to get rid of dandruff. Leave the mask on your scalp for 10 to 20 minutes, then rinse your hair thoroughly. Read the instructions for the exfoliating mask you are using, as the directions may differ for each product.

  2. Apply a hot oil mask

Once your scalp is exfoliated, heat up coconut oil in the microwave, just enough to liquefy the oil. Massage the coconut oil onto your scalp, and cover your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap. Leave the oil on your scalp for at least 10 minutes, or overnight. Shampoo your hair to remove the oil.

  3. Use dandruff shampoo and conditioner

When combined with the weekly exfoliating and hot-oil treatments, washing and conditioning your hair daily with dandruff shampoo helps keep dandruff problems from returning. Use shampoo and conditioner that contains zinc and sulfur, as these help reduce the presence of yeast that cause fungal problems and dandruff.
