Machine washing linen fabrics is perfectly safe and is the preferred method for cleaning clothing and linens such as shirts, handkerchiefs, bed linens, and table linens. Repeated machine washing of linens will cause the material to become more luminous and softer.
When washing linen in a washing machine, it is best to use a gentle detergent or pure soap with soft water. Washing fresh stains right away before they dry is recommended, as dry stains are almost impossible to remove. Only oxygen-type bleaches should be used for white linens, because other bleaches, such as chlorine bleach, can turn the fabric yellow. Once the linens are completely dry and free of soap, allow them to dry naturally, as this helps the fabric retain its original color.
