The major brands of toilet paper in the United States include Scott, Charmin, Quilted Northern and Cottonelle. Some large retailers such as Target, Costco and Walmart manufacture their own brands of toilet paper.
According to a 2014 Good Housekeeping study, the best one-ply toilet paper brands are Cottonnelle Aloe & E and Scott 1000. The same study considers Charmin Ultra Soft, Target Up & Up, Seventh Generation and Scott Naturals as the best two-ply toilet paper brands.
Studies conducted by Consumer Reports (2009) and Good Housekeeping Research Institute (2011) reveal that a Walmart house brand, the White Cloud 3-Ply Ultra Soft and Thick, is the best three-ply toilet paper. The White Cloud brand and Costco's house brand Kirkland are two of the most economical toilet paper brands. Although many consumers look to the Internet for the best prices on household goods, The Sweet Home notes in 2014, Walmart did not always have the White Cloud brand available online, and the price on Amazon rose significantly. Many toilet paper brands are now selling flushable moist wipes, including Cottonelle and Charmin. Although these wipes typically flush easily, they do not break down the same way traditional toilet paper does and can cause sewer system clogs.
