Popular 1970s hairstyles for women included long feather-cut styles and retro hairstyles in the form of bobs or loose curls. Some popular styles for men included shaggy mop top haircuts inspired by The Beatles and blow dried styles that incorporated styling products.
Punk and glam rock hairstyles also emerged during the late 1970s. Both men and women wore mohawks, spiked and heavily teased hairstyles as a part of a style that was meant to shock. African-American men and women also began to embrace their natural hairstyles during the 1970s. Rather than using products to straighten their hair, many allowed it to curl naturally and styled it into Afro haircuts.
