Dark elbows result from sun exposure and dead skin buildup. Spots can be removed through either the use of home remedies or exfoliating and moisturizing processes.
There are a number of home remedies a person can try to get rid of dark rough elbows.
Use lemon juice. Citric acid in lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent. Applying the juice directly to the elbows can lighten the skin.
Apply cream and turmeric. A mixture of heavy cream and turmeric is especially effective for those with darker skin. Turmeric is a natural bleaching agent that works to reduce melanin in skin.
Create a milk and bathing soda paste. The milk contains lactic acid, which reduces the skin’s pigmentation, and the baking soda exfoliates dry skin.
Create a yogurt and vinegar mix. The yogurt contains lactic acid, and the vinegar contains acetic acid. Both help to lighten skin color.
Try exfoliating and moisturizing. Scrub the elbows after showering to remove dry and flaky skin cells that can become trapped in the elbow creases. Use a washcloth or loofah to rub the elbows gently until excess dry skin has been removed. After scrubbing, moisturize the skin. Dry skin darkens, so moisturize with either petroleum jelly or coconut oil.
