To avoid razor burn, treat skin both before and after shaving properly with a sharp razor. The razor should also be frequently rinsed to clean hair out of blades.Â
Shaving on dry skin or using the wrong soap when shaving can irritate shaved skin. Pressing too hard or using a dull razor can also aggravate skin.
Step 1: Prep skin
Apply a thick layer of shaving cream mixed with a bit of water and let it soak in for at least 3 minutes.
Step 2: Shave
Shave, following the direction of hair growth. Shaving against the grain in an attempt to get a closer shave will cause skin irritation.
Step 3: Moisturize
Apply unscented lotion with hypoallergenic properties to the freshly shaved skin.
