How Do You Perform a Pedicure at Home?

Performing a pedicure at home involves removing nail polish, soaking your feet, tidying your toenails, exfoliating your feet and applying new nail polish. You need a tub, nail polish remover, nail clippers and a file. You also need a cuticle stick, a nail buffer, a pumice stone and nail polishes.

The first step is to remove any old nail polish with acetone nail polish remover. This makes it easier to apply new color at the end. Next, soak your feet for 10 minutes in a tub of hot water. Add bath salts or essential oils if you like. The hot water helps soften cuticles and calluses and removes dirt.

Once the soak is finished, dry your feet, and cut your toenails. Buff sharp edges down with the nail file. Try to avoid cutting the nails into a rounded shape, as this can lead to ingrown nails. Next, use the cuticle stick to push back the cuticles. You can apply cuticle oil at this stage if desired. Smooth out ridges on the top of your nails with the buffing pad. Pay extra attention to the areas you trimmed and filed earlier.

Your nails are finished for now. Use the pumice stone in the tub of water to exfoliate the skin on your feet, giving hard heels and calluses an extra scrub. If you like, add soap to the water, and scrub your feet with a brush.

Dry your feet completely, and apply nail polish in the desired color. Use a clear base coat to prevent the colored polish from yellowing your nails.
