Most people believe the opal to be lucky. However, there are a few superstitions that state the opal can bring bad luck.
The Romans thought the opal was a lucky gemstone. They believed it was a mixture of all of the other gemstones. Arabian people once thought that opals fell from the sky as a gift from heaven. It is said that the opal can ward off diseases. In the 1800s, people began believing that a person should not wear an opal unless it was their birthstone. This was due mainly to the novel "Anne of Greinstien" by Sir Walter Scott. Some people believe that the opal should never be used in a wedding set. If it is, the husband will die soon after the wedding.
