To do ombre hair at home, mix peroxide developer with powdered bleach, apply it to the ends of the hair, blend it in, wait for it to work and rinse it out. This one-hour procedure requires 20 volume peroxide developer, hair bleach, a comb, latex gloves, a toothbrush, a bowl, a spoon, shampoo, conditioner, a towel and shower access.
- Mix the bleach solution
Pour 2 ounces of 20 volume peroxide developer into a medium bowl, and add a packet of powdered hair bleach. Stir the mixture with a spoon.
- Apply the bleach solution
Comb the hair, put on latex gloves and dip a toothbrush into the bleach solution. Hold a section of hair in one hand, and brush the bleach solution onto the bottom 2 inches. Then, grasp the end of the section, and pull the dry brush about halfway up its length. For the most even color gradient, do not add more bleach to the hair. Instead, focus on distributing the existing bleach. Repeat this process on the rest of the hair.
- Develop the fade
Leave the bleach on the hair for the amount of time indicated on the peroxide bottle.
- Rinse the hair
Rinse the hair thoroughly. Then, wash it with gentle shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner.
