The recommended tip for a hair stylist is 15 to 20 percent. Although it was avoided in the past, it is now acceptable to tip a hairdresser who also owns the salon. If another person shampoos the hair, he or she should receive at least a couple of dollars.
Other salon workers deserve tips, as well. A manicurist should be given 15 percent. Someone who performs a spa service, such as a massage, should receive a 15 to 20 percent tip.
Tips are also appropriate during the holidays if the same stylist has been seen the whole year. In this case, the extra tip is the cost of one session. For a regular manicurist, the rule of thumb is the same.
