Coconut oil, honey, avocado and olive oil are products that can be used to hydrate dry hair. Apply one of these products weekly or as needed for more manageable, hydrated hair.
Coconut oil is often used for long and very dry hair. Apply 1/2 cup (or more for longer hair) of the oil to damp hair and work in from roots to tips. Wrap damp hair in a towel and allow the oil to remain on the hair for two hours, then wash as usual. For a homemade hot oil treatment, wrap the hair in a towel after applying the oil and warm with a hair dryer on low heat.
Hollistics recommends using coconut oil to smooth hair by applying a small amount of coconut oil to damp hair before styling. Avocado can be mixed with a small amount of coconut oil and applied to hair to hydrate and tame unruly, dry hair. Mash an avocado with a fork, add a tablespoon of coconut oil and apply the mixture to damp hair. After 15 minutes, wash hair as usual.
Woman's Day recommends applying 1/2 cup of honey to damp hair. Allow the honey to remain for 20 minutes before washing as usual to hydrate hair. A tablespoon of avocado and a tablespoon of olive oil can be added to the honey to boost hydration and to make the honey easier to apply.
