Mickey Mouse, one of the most famous cartoon characters, first appeared on a watch in 1933, five years after his debut on Steamboat Willie. Ingersoll-Waterbury (now Timex) released this watch, which sold more than 11,000 units at Macy's in New York City within the first day of sales. This product ultimately saved the company from bankruptcy and featured Mickey Mouse on the face with his outstretched gloved hands acting as the hands of the clock. Below, three mini Mickeys ticked off the seconds in a small circle.
Due to the incredible success, Ingersoll released a Mickey Mouse pocket watch as well as full Mickey Mouse clocks. Ultimately, these Mickey Mouse watches made such a heavy influence on the culture and style of the period that one was buried in the time capsule during the New York World's Fair in 1939.
Over the years, there have been different styles of Mickey Mouse watches -- from cheap plastic children's toys to higher end diamond-encrusted variations.Learn more about Watches
