Begin with removing any old polish from the fingernails. After old polish is removed, it is best for the home manicurist to trim the nails to even lengths and file the ends into either a square tip, rounded tip or somewhere in-between. The cuticles need attention next, and this is best done by softening the cuticles then pushing them back gently with a cuticle stick. For the full manicure, the next step involves exfoliating the hands with a scrub followed by moisturizing with lotion.
The nails need painting after the hands are taken care of. Painting one's nails involves applying a base coat, usually clear, to start with. Two coats of the main color or colors are applied after the base coat dries. Each coat needs to fully dry before the next coat is added so smudging does not occur. Finally, a top coat is applied to seal in the color. To clean up any extra color on the fingers, try dipping a cotton ball in polish remover then carefully wiping away excess polish on the cuticle areas.Learn more about Nail Care
