When looking for makeup colors and shades that suit you, it is important to consider the color of your lips, eyes, complexion, brows and hair. According to make-up artist Fiona Stiles, darker complexions can suit warm colors, while paler complexions should suit cooler colors.
A good way to determine your skin tone is to compare it to a red or blue color and determine which seems to match your face better. Olive skin tones are well-suited to bright colors that bring out the warmth in the face. Very bright colors may be too intense for fair complexions, but appear much more muted on dark complexions. Eye shadows should be complimentary to your eye color, meaning on the opposite side of the color wheel. Lighter colors are ideal for light hair. Blue eyes may benefit from a warm shadow, such as brown, orange or yellow. Green eyes can be emphasized in the same way using purple shadow. Brown eyes look beautiful with blue, purple and green shades.
Many women choose a neutral look for everyday wear, as it can complement many skin tones. To cover blemishes or other red or pink spots, use a green-toned concealer. The green blocks out the opposite red coloring in the face.
