To make a skirt, you need a yard of lace, a yard of lining fabric, a zipper and matching thread. A sewing machine, zipper foot, scissors and fabric marker or pencil are also required.
Use a skirt you own as a template for the pattern. Place the skirt on top of the wrong-side of the lace fabric. Position the skirt so that the bottom end is aligned with the uncut edge of the lace, so that it will not need to be hemmed. Trace around the skirt with the fabric marker. Do this twice to create two pattern pieces for the skirt. Repeat these steps with the lining fabric.
Add a 1/2-inch seam allowance around the lace pattern pieces, and cut. Add 1/4-inch allowance for the lining as it needs to be slightly smaller to fit smoothly underneath the lace.
Pin the two pattern pieces of the skirt together with the right sides facing each other. Sew along the sides, but leave room for the zipper on either the left or the right side. Repeat for the lining fabric.
Turn the lining right side out, and slide it into the lace skirt, which remains inside out. Align the zipper opening. Pin the two pieces together at the top, then sew.
Turn the skirt right side out, and try it on to determine a length for lining. Sew a hem.
Pin the zipper to the lace and the lining fabric on both sides. Cover as much of the zipper as possible with the fabric to hide it. Using a zipper foot, sew on the zipper.
