How Do You Make Pin Curls?

To make pin curls, brush the hair, apply mousse and curl enhancer, roll 2-inch hair sections up to the scalp, pin them flat against the head, leave them in overnight, remove the pins, and apply hairspray. This overnight process requires a brush, mousse, curl enhancer, hair pins and a scarf.

  1. Prepare the hair

Brush the hair. Dispense a large ball of mousse into the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and distribute the product throughout your hair. Brush the hair again, and spray it with curl enhancer.

  2. Make the curls

Separate a 2-inch section of hair from the hairline. Brush the section, pull it straight out from the scalp, twist it, and roll it up to the scalp. Lay the curl against the head, and pin it in place with two hair pins. Make similar curls with the rest of the hair.

  3. Develop curls overnight

Tie a silk scarf around the head, and leave the pin curls in place overnight.

  4. Remove the pins

Take off the scarf, and then remove the pins, starting at the nape of the neck.

  5. Separate and style the curls

Gently separate the curls with your fingers, and apply a generous coat of frizz-fighting hairspray.
