To get loose curls, comb the hair, dampen the bottom half with water, roll 2-inch sections halfway up to the head, tie them in place with cloth strips, leave the strips in overnight, and remove them in the morning. This overnight process requires cloth strips, a comb, water and hairspray.
- Prepare the hair
Comb the hair, and dampen the bottom half with water. Comb the water through the hair.
- Roll the hair
Separate a 2-inch section of hair at the hairline, comb it, and roll the bottom half into a loose roll. Hold the roll in place with one hand, and pick up a fabric strip with the other. Stick the strip through the middle of the roll, and tie it around the hair so the roll stays in place. Repeat this process with the rest of the hair.
- Develop the curls
Leave the rolls in place overnight.
- Remove the fabric strips
The following morning, untie and remove the fabric strips. Start at the nape of the neck, and work up until all of the hair hangs loose. Set the strips aside.
- Apply hairspray
Separate the curls with your fingers, but touch them as little as possible. Do not comb the hair. Mist the curls with a flexible-hold hairspray that contains silicone.
