Pour 1/2 cup of white vinegar into the mason jar, and add a drop of tea tree oil. Swirl the mixture to ensure everything comes together.
Allow the jewelry to sit by soaking the mixture overnight. Vinegar is acidic and is great for cleaning sturdy stones and high-quality jewelry. Tea tree oil is effective for its anti-fungal and disinfectant qualities.
After letting the jewelry sit in the mixture overnight, coat it with baking soda and use an old toothbrush to scrub. The jewelry is already clean by this point, but scrubbing helps you get to the little crevices and hard-to-reach areas. Baking soda is basic and slightly abrasive and is most effective on diamond rings and tarnished silver. It should not be used on aluminum.
Rinse the jewelry with water, preferably under a kitchen faucet with a high pressure setting. Be sure to hold on to the jewelry to avoid losing it in the garbage disposal.
