To make your own homemade body lotion, you can use 1/2 cup of almond or olive oil, 1/4 cup of coconut oil and 1/4 cup of beeswax. The almond or olive oil can also be infused first with herbs if desired. Optional ingredients include one teaspoon of vitamin E oil, 2 tablespoons of shea butter or cocoa butter, essential oils, vanilla extract or other natural extracts.
- Mix it up
Combine all of the ingredients in a mason jar or similar jar. Make sure the jar is 1 pint or larger.
- Prepare your water
Take a medium saucepan, and fill it up to 2 to 3 inches of water. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
- Prepare the jar
Fit the jar with a lid, and place it in the heating water. As the ingredients in the jar start to meld together, occasionally shake the jar to allow them to mix evenly.
- Pour into a vessel
After all of the ingredients are thoroughly melted together, choose a jar or similar container and slowly pour in the mixture. A container with a pump handle is not recommended, as this mixture may be too thick to pump effectively. Seal the container with a lid.
- Use your lotion
This lotion mix lasts about six months, after which its moisturizing capability can diminish. Use the lotion in the same manner as any typical body lotion.
