To make acne soap at home, mix a charcoal-based soap and add natural acne-fighting ingredients. Tea tree oil, essential oil of orange, grape seed oil and chamomile are all effective in fighting acne.
The base ingredients for the acne soap are olive oil, lye, candelilla wax and activated charcoal powder. Start with 12 ounces of distilled water. Add 4.6 ounces of lye, stirring until the powder is dissolved then set this aside. Be sure to read and follow all safety precautions when working with lye.
Next, measure the desired amounts of herbs and essential oils and 14 ounces of olive oil. One recipe calls for 10 drops of tea tree oil and 15 drops of orange essential oil. Another recipe calls for 3.6 ounces of grape seed oil, 1 tablespoon of chamomile flower powder, 1 ounce of lavender essential oil and 7.2 ounces of rice bran oil, among other soap-making oils. Combine the oils and powders with the wax in a non-aluminum pot. Melt over medium heat, then set aside to cool.
Coat soap molds with petroleum jelly. Once the oils and wax have reached between 110 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit, slowly pour the lye water into the mixture, stirring with an immersion stick. Add 1 tablespoon of charcoal powder. Pour this mixture into the prepared soap molds and let it set for 24 hours. Remove the soap from the molds and set in a cool, dry spot to cure for three to six weeks.
