To make a simple fleece hat, measure and cut the fabric, sew the long edges together, fold the fabric in half, close the top of the hat, and cut the raw edges into decorative strips. The supplies you need include fleece, scissors, a measuring tape, a needle and thread.
Measure the head circumference of the person who will wear the hat, add one inch, and cut a 26-inch wide piece of fleece to that measurement. Keep the scrap fabric nearby.
Lay the fleece flat with the right side facing up. Fold it in half lengthwise, and sew the long edges together, leaving a 1/2-inch seam. You now have a long tube. Turn half of the tube inside out so that it covers the other half. The right side of the fleece should be visible on the inside and outside of the tube. Adjust the fabric so the raw edges match perfectly.
Cut a strip of scrap fleece measuring roughly 2 inches by 8 inches. Gather the raw edges of the hat, and tie the strip tightly around them. Snip the gathered material into 1-inch strips, and trim them to a length of about 4 inches. This creates a pom-pom effect at the top of the hat.
