How Do You Make Earrings?

Attach charms to French hook ear wires with jump rings to make simple, stylish earrings. You need a pair of French hook ear wires, a pair of charms, two jump rings and a pair of chain nose or bent chain nose pliers to complete this craft project.

  1. Choose your ear wires

French hooks come in a variety of metals, such as sterling silver and 14K gold. They are also available in base metals, such as brass and nickel, or base metal plated with sterling silver or 14K gold. Some individuals can be sensitive to base metals. For best results, choose sterling silver, gold or plated base metals to reduce the chance of an allergic reaction.

  2. Choose your charms

Like ear wires, charms are also available in a variety of metals. Gold tone and silver tone are the most common. They are also the most cost effective. Choose charms that match the color of your ear wires.

  3. Attach charms to the ear wires

Make sure your jump rings are the same color as the charms and ear wires, unless you are intentionally mixing metals. Using the pliers, open the jump rings with a twist. Pass the jump ring through the charm and through the ear wire. Close the jump ring with another twist.
