Kat Von D, born Katherine von Drachenburg, is a tattoo artist, musician, model and reality television star. She is most known for her role on the reality TV show "LA Ink," which premiered on Aug. 7, 2007 on the TLC network and ran for four years.
Kat Von D was born on March 8, 1982 to Venezuelan parents in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico. She got her first tattoo at the age of 14 and was inspired to pursue tattooing as a career. She dropped out of high school at the age of 16 to follow her dream, eventually appearing on the TLC reality show "Miami Ink." Soon after cutting ties with the shop's top artist, Ami James, Kat was offered her own spin-off show, "LA Ink." "LA Ink" was filmed at her tattoo shop in Hollywood, High Voltage Tattoo.
The popularity of LA Ink brought Kat many opportunities. During the show's four-season run, Kat designed the logo for the city of Los Angeles, launched a makeup line for Sephora and broke the Guinness World Record for most tattoos given by a single artist in 24 hours. She also released a book in 2009 called "High Voltage Tattoo," which made it to the New York Times Best Seller List.
